The laser beam is directed to the material via mirrors and lenses. The power of the laser beam can be adjusted as per the cutting requirement. Once this adjustable beam reaches a material, it deflects off its surface and then it passes through an airstream, which blows away the cut part from the rest of the block.
The overall working laser cutting for metal or any other material is easy. First, the laser beam melts the material through a process called sublimation. As soon as this happens, air blows away the material to form a molten ribbon-shaped flow used for ejecting off the cut part from its block.
When it comes to CO2 laser metal cutting, it is performed at atmospheric pressure, which means the metal to be cut, along with other material in its vicinity, gets vacuumed. These materials are easy to reuse for laser cutting after cooling down. In addition, the laser beam is created in a tube filled with CO2 gas.
Laser cutting is ideal for manufacturing and other industrial applications that call for a powerful cutting tool that also performs with a high level of accuracy. As products become smaller, with more functionality, complexity, and tight tolerances, laser cutting is often the only method that can produce the high-precision features these devices require.
As already discussed, laser technology has an edge over other cutting methods when it comes to certain qualities. All those can work for your cause if you are aware of them.
The main advantages of laser cutting:
Industrial Manufacturing: Laser cutting is extensively used in industrial manufacturing processes to cut and shape various materials such as metal, plastic, wood, glass, and composites. It is employed for creating intricate designs, precise components, and parts for industries like automotive, aerospace, electronics, and machinery.
Automobile: Laser-cutting applications have become indispensable in automotive manufacturing, enabling the production of intricate components and enhancing overall efficiency. From sheet metal fabrication to creating complex structural parts, laser cutting offers unparalleled accuracy, speed, and versatility. Automakers can attain exceptional levels of customization by utilizing this technology, enabling them to achieve precise cuts and precise boundaries across a broad spectrum of materials, including steel, aluminum, and composites, ensuring a flawless finish.
Aerospace: With its ability to cut through a wide range of materials with exceptional accuracy, laser cutting has found numerous applications in aerospace manufacturing. One significant application is the fabrication of intricate and complex components such as turbine blades, aircraft panels, and structural elements.
Mining: In mining operations, laser cutting is utilized for various purposes, such as rock profiling, tunneling, and equipment fabrication. The precision and speed of laser cutting make it a versatile tool for shaping and altering hard materials, including metals and rocks. By employing lasers, miners can achieve intricate cuts with minimal material wastage and exceptional accuracy, enhancing overall efficiency.
Laser Power: As the rated power of the laser beam increases, the cost of the components to handle the higher energy levels increases. Workpiece Thickness: Cutting thicker material requires higher-power lasers. High-power lasers require heavier-duty components and are more expensive than low-power machines
LASER COMPATIBLE MATERIALS
