Custom Aluminum Extrusion Services are shapes of aluminum that can be solid, semi-hollow, or hollow. Many everyday products get their form and function from extruded aluminum. They’re used in everything from home appliances to automobiles. Customers value aluminum extrusions for their strength, stability, corrosion resistance, and lightness. Aluminum extrusions make consumer products like patio furniture and speedboats lighter and also increase the durability of items such as sports equipment. Our experienced staff of engineers are ready to assist you with your design needs.
“In addition to custom profiles, we also offer a wide range of standard aluminum profiles that are readily available for various applications.”
6061 | 6082 | 6063 |
The most versatile of the heat-treatable aluminum alloys, this grade retains most of aluminum’s good qualities. It offers a wide range of mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. It can be fabricated using the most commonly used techniques and has good workability in annealing. | Aluminum 6082 is a medium-strength alloy with excellent corrosion resistance and the highest strength among the 6000 series alloys. Known as a structural alloy, 6082 is most commonly used for machining in plate form. As a relatively new alloy, its high tensile strength has allowed it to replace aluminum 6061 in many applications. | Commonly known as an architectural alloy, aluminum 6063 has reasonably high mechanical properties, excellent finishing characteristics, and a high degree of corrosion resistance. It is most often found in various interior and exterior architectural applications and trim and is widely used for aluminum extrusion applications. |
7075 | 5052 | |
Aluminum 7075 is one of the highest-strength aluminum alloys available, featuring an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. It is ideal for highly stressed parts and is typically used in the aviation industry for complex structures and high precision. | This is the highest-strength alloy among the non-heat-treatable grades, with fatigue strength higher than most other aluminum grades. It has good resistance to marine atmosphere and saltwater corrosion and excellent workability. |
Alloy Name | 6061 | 6063 |
Description | 6061 is a versatile alloy that can be heat-treated to tempers such as 6061-T6. Magnesium and silicone are primary alloying elements that give the material high structural strength, toughness, and weldability. | 6063-T5 is a very economical heat-treatable alloy with a smaller grain structure than 6061 alloys. 6063 is more common for extrusions than 6061. It can form parts with thin walls and responds well to finishing processes, making it suitable for decorative applications. |
Characteristics | High strength and toughness; 40,000 PSI tensile yield strength* Great corrosion resistance Good fatigue resistance Doesn’t respond as well to finishing Heat treatable | Responds well to finishing Great corrosion resistance Easily extruded and economical Ideal for thin-wall applications Relatively low strength; 20,000 PSI yield strength* Heat treatable |
Suitable Applications | Transportation components for automotive and marine environments | Decorative trim, heat sinks, architectural components |
* Typical minimum representative values; material temper may affect mechanical properties
Metal extrusion products can be found all around us in our daily lives. You can find them from metal windows and door frames to structural components for architecture and airplanes.
Metal tubing, shaped bars, and angle stock are all created through extrusion. Many custom-manufactured parts are made from these standardized extruded shapes. Metal extrusion is often the best, if not the only way, to create components with continuous complex cross-sections at scale while remaining economical. Some industries that use the process include automotive, aerospace, marine, architecture, construction, food processing, and electronics.
Standard aluminum extrusion profiles (like extruded aluminum channel or extruded aluminum bar) are typically mass manufactured by extrusion specialists; if you need large quantities of standard extruded aluminum profiles, you are better off using the services of one of these companies.
However, for custom aluminum extrusion profiles with a nonstandard aluminum extruded shape, Conco may be a better option. That’s because we accept low-volume extrusion orders — for prototyping and small batch production — allowing you to experiment with custom profiles.
In addition to creating custom aluminum extrusion profiles using custom dies, we can combine extrusion with other manufacturing processes (like CNC machining) to produce custom final parts. This can allow us to make parts faster and more affordably, especially if the majority of the part has a consistent cross-section.
Conco supports small batch production. If you need small to medium-sized orders, other companies might not be able to meet your needs. Additionally, Conco offers a full range of services from machining to anodizing, saving material transportation time and significantly reducing overall processing time.
You may specify a different aluminum alloy, and we will review the feasibility when providing you with a quotation.
Our most commonly used alloys are 6061 and 6063, which contain high levels of ma nesium and silicone. Both are highly corrosion resistant.
Conco has extensive experience in aluminum extrusion. In addition to custom profiles, we also offer standard aluminum profiles available on the market.
Complete Custom Aluminum Extrusion Services from prototype to production ensure high quality, fast delivery and competitive prices.
